SPR Congratulates Camber Property Group on their Big Apple Brownfield Award for Sustainable Building Design
SPR congratulates Camber Property Group and Bowery Residents’ Committee, Inc. (BRC) on their 2025 Big Apple Brownfield Award for Sustainable Building Design for their work on 13-12 Beach Channel Drive in Far Rockaway, Queens. The New York City Brownfield Partnership presents the annual Big Apple Brownfield Awards to celebrate brownfield redevelopment through the recognition of successful projects in the City.
The eight-story 13-12 Beach Channel Drive development includes 147 residential units providing a mix of deeply affordable and supportive housing to help alleviate the historic housing crisis in New York City. The Project also includes a 100-bed facility for single adult women where they can access therapy and community reintegration sessions. The building was designed to Enterprise Green Communities Standards and will feature Energy Star-rated appliances, fixtures designed to conserve water, finishes with low volatile organic compounds (VOCs), coated windows, and both above-grade insulation and roof coatings for enhanced energy efficiency. The Project was completed in September 2024 and is almost fully occupied.
The Firm is proud to have assisted in shepherding this important and cutting-edge residential development project through the NYS Brownfield Cleanup Program. SPR Principal Michael Bogin served as lead environmental counsel with the assistance of Associate Kevin Rogers.
