NYSDOH Adds Petroleum-Related VOCs to its Soil Vapor Guidance
On or around February 26, 2024, the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) released a significant update to its Guidance for Evaluating Soil Vapor Intrusion in the State of New York (SV Guidance) by issuing for the first time three new Soil Vapor/Indoor Air Matrices D-F for 13 petroleum-related volatile organic compounds (VOCs):
SPR continues to analyze NYSDOH’s new SV Guidance Matrices D-F and their potential consequences for sites in New York State remedial programs, but NYSDOH’s new SV Guidance Matrices D-F for petroleum-related VOCs appear to be effective immediately. Property owners facing potential soil vapor intrusion issues would be prudent to ensure that any air sampling and analysis of their properties includes the 13 new petroleum-related VOCs, in addition to the chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs) which have long been required.
