Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
At SPR, we are committed to hiring, retaining and promoting a diverse group of talented attorneys and staff and fostering an inclusive and welcoming work environment.
It is a fundamental policy of SPR to ensure equal employment opportunity without discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, disability, pregnancy, childbirth or related medical condition, alienage or citizenship status, creed, marital or partnership status, familial status, caregiver status, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by law. The Firm prohibits and will not tolerate any such discrimination or harassment. We value all colleagues’ viewpoints in substantive work and Firm management decisions. We emphasize the importance of ensuring equal opportunities for all of our colleagues to thrive. Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, composed of attorneys representing a cross-section of the Firm, actively seeks ways to further develop these values within the Firm and the legal profession, particularly the environmental field.
Four of the six most recent internal promotions to principal status within the Firm have been women, and our associate ranks and support staff consist overwhelmingly of women and/or people of color. The Firm actively supports the New York State Bar Association Environmental and Energy Law Section Diversity and Inclusion Committee, of which one of our principals is co-chair; we are an inaugural sponsor of the Environmental Law Institute’s Environmental Justice Clerkship in partnership with Howard University School of Law; and a participant in the New York City Bar Association’s Thurgood Marshall Summer Law Internship Program for diverse New York City public high school students.
